Day of Global Occupy Protests Under Way Demonstrators in London and Rome turn out in large numbers to voice their displeasure over perceived corporate greed as "Occupy" protests spread across the globe. NBC's Keir Simmons reports. Tens of thousands nicknamed "the indignant" marched Saturday in European cities as protests against capitalism and austerity measures went global. Violence broke out in Rome, where Italian police fired tear gas and water cannons at protesters after some smashed shop and bank windows, torched cars and hurled bottles. A day of worldwide protests inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement in the United States began Saturday with the hundreds of people gathering in cities from Japan and South Korea to Australia. Organizers had hoped to see non-violent demonstrations in 951 cities in Asia, Europe, South America and Africa in addition to every state in the United States.

Night Video of OWS Protest Occupy Wall Street protesters have won their first battle, after a mass clean-up effort by New York city officials was cancelled. Activists against corporate greed considered it an attempt to undermine the month-long rally.

About Occupy Wall Street NYC General Assemblies are an open, participatory and horizontally organized process through which we are building the capacity to constitute ourselves in public as autonomous collective forces within and against the constant crises of our times. NYC General Assembly is the official website of the GA of #OccupyWallStreet.

About Occupy Wall Street (Wikipedia) Occupy Wall Street is an ongoing series of demonstrations in New York City based in Zuccotti Park, formerly "Liberty Plaza Park". The protest was originally called for by the Canadian activist group Adbusters. The action has been compared to the Arab Spring movement (particularly the Tahrir Square protests in Cairo, which initiated the 2011 Egyptian revolution) and the Spanish Indignants. The participants of the event, who have called themselves the "99 percenters", are mainly protesting against social and economic inequality, corporate greed, and the influence of corporate money and lobbyists on government. Adbusters states that, "Beginning from one simple demand - a presidential commission to separate money from politics - we start setting the agenda for a new America." The protest's organizers hope that the protesters themselves will formulate their own specific demands, expecting them to be focused on "... taking to task the people who perpetrated the economic meltdown."

About OccupyWallStreet.org OccupyWallSt.org is the unofficial de facto online resource for the ongoing protests happening on Wall Street. We are an affinity group committed to doing technical support work for resistance movements. We are not affiliated with Adbusters, anonymous or any other organization. The leaders of this movement are the everyday people participating in the occupation. We use a tool called the "General Assembly" to facilitate open, participatory and horizontal organizing between members of the public. We welcome people from all colors, genders and beliefs to participate in our daily assemblies. Visit the NYC General Assembly website to learn how you can become involved, read updates/minutes, or find out how you can adopt NYCGA processes to organize your own community.
